Letter S

I used Sugar Smacks for S. I drew the Dig'em Frog mascot, but the cereal had other mascots too, including the following:

Cliffy the Clown - 1953 - 1956
Smaxey the Seal - 1957
Quick Draw McGraw - 1961
The Smackin' Bandit -1965
The Smackin' Brothers - 1966
Indian Chief - early 70s

The Dig'em Frog was introduced in 1972, the same year I was born. (Source: Wikipedia)

Happy Birthday Edward Gorey

Edward Gorey would have been 84 today. My birthday is tomorrow, and I must say that it pleases me disproportionately that our birthdays are so close together.

Meijinproductions created this stop-frame animation of the True Story of Dracula using an Edward Gorey Dracula cut-out theater. I found it today on YouTube, and I think it's a perfect tribute.

Heroin Chic Dolls

I have two young daughters, and I often shop for them on-line. As a result, I am now on a number of mailing lists from on-line toy companies, clothing compaines, doll manufacturers, etc. I delete many of these e-mails without even reading them. However, I truly enjoy the e-mails from Two Daydreamers Collectible Dolls.

Two Daydreamers is not your average doll company. They feature unexpected dolls such as these, these, these, and these. And now they have the Robert Tonner Antoinette Collection, described as follows:

Antoinetteâ„¢ is an exciting new addition to the doll fashion world. She is a 16" fashion doll with a brand new face and body sculpt. She takes on many different looks depending on her skin tone, hair color and face paint. The collection features glamorous Haute Couture dressed dolls, fabulous basic dolls and chic separate outfits. If that weren't enough, Robert Tonner is giving collectors blank mannequins to enhance the display of the new fashions or to repaint!

For the record, I haven't purchased any of these dolls. I much prefer dolls like these.

My Studies in Digestion piece sold for $152.53. As promised, the proceeds of this auction will be donated to Brandeis University to help save the Rose Art Museum. I am happy to have made such a valuable contribution to the art world.

Here is more criticism of the Brandeis plan.

Letter R

Okay, back to my Breakfast Cereal Alphabet. I used Rice Krispies for R. Here is a vintage Snap, Crackle, Pop commercial, probably from the 50's.
Somewhat related: while researching the Rice Krispies commercials, I also found what claims to be the first McDonald's commercial. I was suspicious, but Bob actually remembers these ads. This is more like the Ronald McDonald I remember. I also found the Big Mac song and my favorite, the Double Dutch commercial.
